Fiat TwinAir Engine Receives Techies Award

The multi award-winning TwinAir engine from Fiat has received just added another trophy to its case, as it was awarded in the 2011 BusinessCar Fleet Technology Awards, announced yesterday, August 23rd.

The awards, known as ‘The Techies’, recognize and highlight technological success, and Fiat’s distinctive 0.9-litre two cylinder engine has once again proved it is certainly that. Current International Engine of the Year 2011, the TwinAir is the cleanest one of the cleanest engines on the market while it still manages to offer an exciting and fun appeal.

“Not every category is afforded a Highly Commended entrant, it’s only given out where the judges found it particularly difficult to split candidates and felt more than one deserved recognition,” says Paul Barker, Group Editor, BusinessCar.

Installed in the Fiat 500, the TwinAir is capable of lively 0-62mph acceleration in 11 seconds, while maximum speed is 108mph. It has the lowest CO2 emissions of any quantity production petrol engine at 95g/km, along with 68.9mpg economy (combined cycle).

The TwinAir range will come in both 500 (hatchback) and 500C (convertible) versions and will only be available in vibrant colours such as Pearlescent Red, Tropicalia Yellow and Electroclash Grey. A special colour, Midnight Black, is available only on the TwinAir Plus model.

In Bristain, the base Fiat 500 TwinAir is fitted with 15-inch black alloy wheels, burnished metal effects on dashboard and front and rear mouldings, spoiler, chrome exhaust pipe and sports seats. These elements are meant to enhance the 500’s sporty appearance and ‘fun to drive’ appeal.

“TwinAir and TwinAir Plus will become the best offer for Fiat 500 customers,”
said Elena Bernardelli, marketing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK. “The combination of lively performance, high equipment levels, great value for money and undoubted green credentials make the TwinAir range a wonderful proposition for Fiat 500 lovers everywhere.”
