Fiat has stated, ever since it introduced the engine in the middle of last year, that the Fiat 500 will not be the only model to get it. At the time, no mention of the possible models to borrow the unit has been made, leaving room for intense speculation. Now, thanks to some well-placed leaked information, a few more details about the wonder engine have become available.
According to Autonews, citing various sources, the first use of the unit on a new model will be made courtesy of Lancia, which will fit it on the Ypsilon. Sales of the model are expected to begin next week. Later in the year, one of Fiat's favorite models, the Punto, will also get a TwinAir implant.
The three models (Ypsilon, Punto and 500) will be, for now, the only ones that will use the engine in the current configuration. The lineup is expected to be enriched considerably as soon as Fiat has its way with the engine and launches three more variants: a turbocharged version (105 hp versus the current 85), a bi-fuel version, and a normally aspirated variant. The last one will get used this year, when it is introduced on the Panda.
