Fiat recently introduced the 500L, but the company used the occasion to the show a bit more than the elongated 500, as it also allowed the audience to get a glimpse of an upcoming version of the car.
We are talking about the crossover incarnation of the 500, the 500X, which was shown for a few moments during the 500L’s presentation. The 500X will get a proper name before it will be showcased at the Paris Motor Show this fall and will be underpinned by the same B-Wide platform as the 500L. The vehicle is expected to use a smart four-wheel drive system that will allow it to offer decent off-road performance.
The vehicle would do more than just compete with the MINI Countryman, as it could also help Fiat in its effort to conquer the US market. However, until it will be revealed, Fiat will give us a soft-road version of the 500L, which will be called Trekking. This will come with a non-permanent all-wheel drive system, which will use an electronic front limited slip differential feature.
