The new Cinquecento may've been with us since March 2007, 50 years since the original 500 debuted, but the aging Type 312-gen won’t kick the bucket just yet. Until the heavily-anticipated successor comes along, the Italian company will keep the 500 hype alight with special edition models such as this one.
Dubbed the 500 Ron Arad Edition, what you can admire in the photo gallery below is, as anyone is easily able to tell, a black-painted car with curious white striping on its sides. The visual treatment mimicks the profile of the very chich 500 from 1957, with grandpa’s front bumper ending right where the Fiat 500 Ron Arad Edition has its front alloy wheels.

Don’t be surprised though - whereas the outgoing generation of the automaker’s smallest vehicle is measuring 3,546 mm (139.6 in) in length, the retro urban dweller boasts with just 2.97 meters (116.9 in) back bumper to front bumper. Other than the neat exterior makeover, what else is special here?

The 69 horsepower 1.2-liter petrol is certainly not, nor the slightly hefty €19,000 starting price. One redeeming aspect of the limited-run Fiat is the rich list of standard equipment, including a fixed glass roof, chrome trim, Poltrona Frau leather seats with ivory detailing, climate control and white mirror caps.

For the money, you also get a 1:18 scale model of the 500 Ron Arad Edition, but what about the Ron Arad thingy? As it happens, this guy is an Israeli industrial designer, artist and architect that launched his career in 1981 with the Rover chair, a postmodernist piece “underpinned” by a Rover P6 leather seat.
