FIA Hits Back for Leaks in Briatore's Lawsuit

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) responded to Flavio Briatore's pleadings to the Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris, condemning the media for showing selective leaks from the Italian's forwarded documents to the court.

It has emerged yesterday that Briatore is seeking $1 million from the FIA for ruining his image in the crash-gate verdict and, consequently, to reverse the lifetime ban imposed by the ruling body for his alleged involvement in the race fixing scandal.

In his pleadings to the Paris court, Briatore insisted that the FIA was simply a weapon in former president Max Mosley's hands who was seeking revenge after the political FIA-FOTA turmoil earlier this year.

Briatore argued that the former British official was “blinded by an excessive desire for personal revenge.” The hearing is scheduled to take place on November 24th.

The FIA condemns the selective leaking of extracts from Mr Briatore’s pleadings to the Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris. The FIA rejects the allegations made in these leaks and confirms that the decision to impose a sanction against Mr Briatore was made by an overwhelming majority of the attending World Motor Sport Council members,” said the FIA statement.

In respect for the authority of the French Court, it would be entirely inappropriate for the FIA to comment further on this matter in advance of the hearing,” added the FIA statement.
