Symonds Joins Briatore in FIA Appeal

Disgraced technical engineer Pat Symonds seems o have joined Flavio Briatore in his appeal over the FIA sanctions regarding the crash-gate. Although the British engineer did not confirmed it through the media, the legal documents forwarded by Briatore to the Paris' Tribunal de Grande Instance high court also include Symonds as part of the accusation, as reported by the Guardian.

While Briatore received a life ban from all FIA-sanctioned competitions because of his alleged involvement in the crash-gate, Symonds' coming forward got him a lighter penalty, only 5 years out of all FIA-sanctioned competitions. However, while Briatore continues to state his innocence in the case, Symodns already confirmed he was part of the plan and even apologized to Renault for his wrongdoings.

If you're wondering how come Symonds is appealing the FIA sanction when he has already admitted to his guilt, know that the British engineer now argues that the disciplinary hearings of the FIA in the aforementioned case was made “in an improper fashion”.

As far as Briatore is concerned, however, one can at least admit one thing, and that's the fact that the former Renault manager kept a straight line in the case from the early beginning of the scandal: he's innocent and he wants to prove it to the world, while in addition asking for 1 million euros in damages from the international body.

The decisions to carry out an investigation and to submit it to the World Council were taken by the same person, Max Mosley, the FIA president,” Briatore's appeal statement said, hinting that the FIA's ban-handing was instrumented by its former president in his attempt to get back at Briatore for his vocal attitude during the FIA-FOTA war earlier this year.

More, his statement says that Mosley “assumed the roles of complainant, investigator, prosecutor and judge” during the aforementioned investigation.

The hearing at the Paris' Tribunal de Grande Instance high court is set for November 24.
