‘Festival of Legends - Wings and Wheels' at Laguna Seca

Though it will make its debut in the fall of 2010, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca announced that a special preview of the ‘Festival of Legends - Wings and Wheels' will be on display at this year's Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix in the Yamaha Market Place on July 3 to 5.

The preview will feature a range of historical motorcycles, the future F-450 racing class, motocross, supermoto and road racing models.

The Festival of Legends in 2010 will celebrate the milestones of motor racing, with all the spectacle and characteristics of the era, including the atmosphere, dress, food and music specific for the racetracks in the 1970s.

The Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca circuit has a rich history in motor racing, including races with many American motorcycle legends, such as Eddie Lawson, Kenny Roberts and Wayne Rainey.

On this track Harley-Davidson won its final AMA Road Racing National with Cal Rayborn in 1972 and a teenage Kenny Roberts finished third on a Yamaha behind Gene Romero on a Triumph.

Moreover, in 1973, it was the first time that a big bike production race was run, the genesis of what is now Superbike racing. The race was then won by Yvon DuHamel on a Kawasaki, Steve McLauglin on a Honda and Reg Pridmore who was riding a BMW.

In 1974 Kenny Roberts scored first of his many wins at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in the Superbike International, riding a Yamaha.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca's world-class 2009 racing schedule includes the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix featuring MotoGP World Championship July 3-5, the 36th Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races August 14-16 and the Monterey Sports Car Championships featuring the American Le Mans Series October 9-11.
