So, you’re a respectable automaker that also rolls in Formula One and your wind-test tunnel breaks down. What do you do? You take your testing car, pack it up, go to the biggest automaker and knock on their door asking for allowance to use their wind tunnel.
That is the story of Ferrari F1 team, whose wind tunnel failed and started to return altered results. So, the team moved its entire aerodynamic testing schedule for the F138 car to the Toyota facility in Cologne.
“It’s a difficult situation. Despite having our own wind tunnel, we are still struggling and are obliged to work abroad.” said F138 project chief Simone Resta.
The well-known Formula One team will have to continue their tests in Toyota’s aerodynamic tunnel, hoping to resolve the problem by the end of the summer.
