Ferrari President Would Name Alonso PM in His Government

Luca di Montezemolo once again made fun of the rumors suggesting that he would be interested in a career in politics, following recent reports that gave his departure from Ferrari's presidential seat as a certain fact.

Asked by Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport if the rumors are true, the Scuderia boss, who last year left his chairman position at FIAT and was then linked to a same move, responded mischievously.

“Me in politics? Yes, with Alonso as prime minister,” he said. “I would have him because he has the strongest character and is optimistic but also a realist.”

Furthermore, he also had some other names in mind when setting up his own virtual government. Curiously enough, there wasn't enough room for his other driver Felipe Massa.

“Vettel, who is smart and fast, Rosberg for being able to hold off Schumacher, Perez for his talent and Hamilton, a great champion,” he added.

Di Montezemolo also had some interesting words to say about certain champions that have made their presence felt at Maranello over the years or would have done so, including “Lauda, who was able to never pay for anything, not even a drink, Schumacher never gave up, and before he died Senna told me that his dream was to win a world championship with Ferrari.”

Additionally, the Ferrari president insisted that he hasn't lost faith in the 2011 F1 campaign, despite the poor couple of races early on, and has confidence that his team will fight back to the top this year. A win in China this weekend, however, would not be a realistic goal.

“I expect some improvement, but it will be difficult to reverse the situation in one week,” he said.
