Ferrari Hopeful in Spa, Monza Races

Ferrari's team boss Stefano Domenicali insisted that 2nd place from Fernando Alonso in the Hungarian Grand Prix may very well be looked upon as a surreal result for the Scuderia, considering the fact that Red Bull were “on another planet” this last weekend.

However, the Italian boss moved quickly to more optimistic feeling for the future, as he argued the upcoming two Grands Prix, at Spa-Francorchamps and Monza, will better suit the Ferrari F10 than the Hungaroring.

For sure we have seen a Red Bull that was on another planet today, it was too strong for us and in the second and third sector they were flying,” said Domenicali. “One week ago we were there and this week we were more than one second behind so we need to be prudent, we need to understand and try to find more downforce everywhere.

For sure the conditions of Spa and Monza at the next two grands prix will be totally different and we need to see what will be the combined effect of the different aero configuration plus the different aero configuration of the track,” added the Italian boss.

After Hungary, it was obvious that high-downforce circuits are a perfect match for the Red Bull RB6, whose multitude of aerodynamic novelties figured out by design guru Adrian Newey enhance the two RBR drivers to race in a league of their own from Friday through Sunday. Domenicali knows that all too well and urged his engineers to figure something out in order to provide the F10 with an increased level of downforce for the upcoming 7 races.

We need to understand and try to find more downforce everywhere,” added Domenicali.

As for the races at Spa and Monza, the configuration of those circuits will put the emphasis on engine power primarily, a chapter where Ferrari and McLaren are currently better placed than Red Bull. However, with 4 weeks left before the Belgium Grand Prix, anything can happen.
