Ferrari Hit Out at F1 Hypocrisy

Echoing the comments of his boss Luca di Montezemolo, Ferrari's team principal Stefano Domenicali insisted that the world of Formula One is full of hypocrisy. Obviously, he is referring to the way the other team principals in the paddock reacted to Ferrari's team tactics during the German Grand Prix, when Felipe Massa was suggested to let his teammate Fernando Alonso pass him for victory.

Talking to Ferrari's official website last weekend, Domenicali admitted his surprise of the paddock reaction, saying that he has been “dumbstruck” by the hypocrisy in F1. Additionally, he blamed some of his colleagues of the same hypocritical behavior when suggesting that Ferrari are running an illegal front wing in the series.

I was dumbstruck to see so much hypocrisy in our world, but I don't want to add anything else: there will just be more work to do; who knows it might be an added distraction for some,” said Domenicali, referring to the changes made by the FIA regarding wing flexibility tests.

With Red Bull and Ferrari dominating the field in recent races, some of their rivals – Mercedes GP and McLaren, to be more precise – accused them of running front wings more flexible than legal (which bend towards the ground more than usual, creating extra downforce). Consequently, the FIA decided to ramp up those tests, doubling their standards.

The other point of discussion is the team order saga Ferrari have been in the center of in recent weeks. The Scuderia were fined $100,000 for their alleged team tactics at Hockenheim (a fine which they chose not to dispute) and summoned to defend their case in front of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC), therefore risking even more penalties.

Red Bull – their direct rivals for the F1 title – have been some of the most vocal critics of the Scuderia's tactics, with motorsport advisor Hemut Marko demanding a drastic penalty for the Maranello team.
