Ferrari Confirm Switch to 2010 Car

Ferrari are the first team who have publicly admitted that they will switching focus to their 2010 programme in a matter of days. According to team principal Stefano Domenicali, the upcoming season will be crucial for the Scuderia and the Maranello technicals do not want to lose any more time this year.

The Italian boss revealed his team has already put into place the 2010 operations, only the mechanics were working in parallel with the 2009 programme until now.

We have already started some work on the new project, and in the next couple of weeks we will basically shift off to the new project in order to make sure we do not lose any time. We know that next season will be crucial, and we want really definitely to start with a different pace compared to this year. So it is a matter of days rather than weeks,” said Domenicali after the German Grand Prix.

Felipe Massa's 3rd place at the Nurburgring was Ferrari's second podium of the season, following Kimi's 3rd place in Monaco. Having made some obvious progress as compared to the last few races, Domenicali reckoned Ferrari will continue to push for a 3rd place in the constructors' race, although clearly as a secondary aim.

Our aim, as we’ve already said is to finish third in the Constructors’ championship and today’s result has helped us make up some ground on the squad ahead of us,” said the Ferrari-an, whose team not moved only 2.5 seconds behind 3rd placed Toyota in the standings.

He also warned that his team is to face some tough competition from other championship “big guns” as well, as shown in the very race at the Nurburgring the past weekend.

But we need to keep our feet on the ground because the others are not sleeping; the others are turning things around - look at what we have seen this weekend with Renault, McLaren and Force India,” added Domenicali.
