Ferrari Blames the FIA for Manufacturers' Exodus from F1

Ferrari yesterday published a material for the media on their official website in which the Italian manufacturer revealed their position towards the sudden retirements of Honda, BMW and Toyota. In a time when all three manufacturers argued their withdrawal decisions by pointing at the economic crisis, Ferrari believes otherwise.

According to the Maranello based company, it's not the global recession that caused Toyota and BMW to quit the series, but the tough battle between the car manufacturers and the very people who run Formula One. Although the FIA has consistently tried to impose plenty of cost-cutting measure to keep the expenditure level down to a minimum in the sport, the ruling body is still seen as the main player responsible for the manufacturers' exodus in F1.

In reality the steady trickle of desertion is more the result of a war against the big car manufacturers by those who managed the sport, than the effects of the economical that affected Formula 1 over the last years,” said the Ferrari statement.

In addition, the Italian car maker once again put the blame on the FIA for bringing back independent teams rather that make sure the manufacturers stay in the Great Circle. Ferrari has serious doubts that all the newly entrants will make it to the end of the 2010 season and doubts the value of the competition is as high as this year, despite the same number of teams.

While trying to put the whole situation into a metaphor, Ferrari hinted that what happens now in Formula One resembles a story one can read in an Agatha Christie novel. Unlike in those books, however, Ferrari wants to discover the “murderer” before it's too late.

It seems like a parody of Agatha Christie's 'Ten Little Indians', published in England for the first time in the year 1939, but reality is much more serious. In Christie's detective novel the guilty person is only discovered when everybody else is dead, one after the other. Do we want to wait until this happens or should we write Formula 1's book with a different closing chapter?
