BMW’s motorcycle division seems to steadily surmount the poor economic conditions of the last few years as new record sales have been reported for the second month of 2014. The German manufacturer has sold 18.3% more motorcycles and maxi scooters to final customers in February 2014 than in the similar period of time, last year.
No less than 8,098 units have been delivered to customers in February 2014, compared to 6,847 motorcycles and maxi-scooters sold one year ago. The combined figures for the first two months of 2014 have also increased by a hefty 16%, BMW Motorrad reports: a total of 13,536 units were sold in January and February this year, whereas the same two months of 2013 only saw 11,665 bikes delivered. All these figures refer to the worldwide market.

While no exact figures have been made public, BMW Motorrad admits that the top selling bike is the new, liquid-cooled R1200GS, the machine which led BMW’s worldwide sales in 2013, as well. Another two new bikes, which started selling in February, the R1200GS Adventure and R1200RT are following the base 1200GS machine closely.

Mid-March sees BMW expanding the offer for all the markets with the addition of two roadsters: the acclaimed R nineT, which is the final model equipped with an air-cooled boxer and the new, S1000R naked street fighter. The R nineT is expected to sell in great numbers, thanks to its intriguing construction and engineering making it ready for exhaustive customization.

BMW Motorrad will also debut their C evolution electric maxi-scooter in May, adding the first modern electric two-wheeler to the whole offer. Heiner Faust, Director of Sales and Marketing at BMW Motorrad sounds very happy with the debut of the year: "Expectations for the season are optimistic based on our customers' positive reactions and due to the successful sales figures of the first two months of the year."
