Before you go all “yeah, it happens every day in China”, we’ll say it straight up front, it’s Indian. In fact, as opposed to most of the ones we’ve been writing about, this one looks like a car, resembling what a petrolhead would call a functional Woodie. The difference is it rather takes the shape of an off-roader of some sort.
Of course, the person behind it is a carpenter, but none of those directly involved in the project apparently have any mechanical knowledge. Amandeep and Mohinder Singh from Patiala, India built this car together. One is a 23-year-old student who had the idea, the other is a gifted craftsman and his father.
According to Barcroft Cars, the father and son team spent two months, 12 hours every day to build it by hand. As opposed to other similar creations that usually take a somewhat artistic approach, this one seems like a functional car. In fact, its creators claim it certainly does what any road-legal vehicle can.
In terms of performance, if we’re allowed to use that term, the wooden auto comes with a top speed of 75 mph. The craftsman used hundreds of planks of traditional wood that they covered in layers of varnish to build the classic car shape around the engine. There’s a Maruti 800 powering this peculiar creation which makes sense considering it was created in India.

We’re looking at a small city car produced by a subsidiary of Suzuki that has been under production from 1983 through 2014. Commonly known as the most influential automobile in India, about 2.87 million units were produced of which 2.66 million were sold in India itself.
No doubt, building a wooden car that is powered by a Maruti 800 engine is quite a nice way to honor the vehicle.
