Fans Want Alonso & Kubica Duo at Ferrari

According to an Italian survey conducted by sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the Ferrari fans want a Fernando Alonso – Robert Kubica duo racing for the prancing horse in the near future. Curiously enough, none of the current drivers – Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa – managed to get enough votes to continue with the team.

Alonso was, by far, the winner of the aforementioned pole, as he took no less than 42 percent of the votes. He was followed by the Pole with 24.6% and Massa with 16.8%. Raikkonen is clearly the less wanted driver of them all, as he only managed to score 8.9% of the votes. Lewis Hamilton, the other world champion still active, only received 8.2% of the votes.

Alonso has been rumored to join Ferrari ever since the late months of 2008. The Spaniard is rumored to have already signed a pre-agreement with the Scuderia starting 2011, replacing Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen. However, Alonso could make the Ferrari cockpit even sooner, should Ferrari decide to part ways with the Fin at the end of this year.

In that situation, Alonso would have to terminate his deal with Renault one year before time, as the Spaniard has signed a 2-year extension with the Enstone based team only days after the end of last season. Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo insisted he does not rule out a future signing of Alonso in the near future.

As far as Kubica goes, the Pole was also believed to be one of Ferrari's targets throughout the last season, but none of the rumors regarding his potential move to the prancing horse evolved further than that. The BMW driver would make for a great teammate to Alonso, as the two are believed to be best friends amongst the F1 drivers.
