F1 Safety Car Hits Normal Roads

The CLK 63 AMG Black Series is what you get when you take off the stickers and the additional safety lights off a Formula 1 safety car. Mercedes decided to introduce F1 spirit to those that weren't satisfied by a "normal" AMG.

For the CLK Black Series, the AMG engineers squeezed 26 more horsepower from the CLK 63' s 6.2 liter aspirated V8, for a total of 507 horsepower at 6800 rpm and 630 Nm at 5250 rpm. The power increase translates into a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.3 seconds (0.3 seconds faster than the standard model) and a top speed of 300 km/h (electronically limited).

The engine is coupled with a 7G-tronic AMG Speedshift gearbox which only has "M" and "S" mode, the "C" (comfort) program being deleted.
Brakes were not neglected, now the front axle having 360x36 mm brake disks and 330x26 mm at the rear. Suspension has been modified, being stiffer and the tracks have been widened by 75 mm in the front and 66mm in the back, for improved handling.

Optically, the CLK Black Series is different from the 63 AMG due to the large carbon fiber cooling intakes, flared wheel arches, a discrete carbon fiber rear spoiler and 19 inch AMG forged rims.

Inside the car, the rear seats were removed and in the front there are now new racing style bucket seats. The steering wheel's diameter is 15 mm smaller and now it has silver aluminium shift paddles. All the trim on the center console and doors is carbon fiber.

Another novelty is the instrument cluster scaled up to 320 km/h . The specially designed AMG main menu is dedicated to serious racing, with the display of the gear engaged, oil temperature and racetimer. The racetimer stores data about lap times, top and average speed and length of track.

Although it is built as a race car , the CLK 63 AMG Black Series still has the qualities that Mercedes cars are known for, like comfort, safety, every day practicability and quality.

First units are expected to be delivered in June.
