Excessive Speed and Target Fixation Cause Rider to Crash Really Silly

Even though the author of this dangerous “stunt” seems to indicate target fixation as the main reason for the accident, things are a tad different, even though a little more riding experience could have spared him the crash.
As himself declares, the fellow was already riding a little beyond his skills and comfort zone, so it’s kind of natural to see things developing badly when hazards are brought into the whole equation. The speed was the initial cause for him straying off the best line through the turn. A slightly more experienced rider could have effortlessly lean through the bend and follow the apex of the turn close to the yellow line, as there was more than enough room for safe passage.

After failing to enter the turn on the ideal line, target fixation took over, nulling all the fellow’s changes to make it around the corner. You can see that he was braking while entering the gravel patch, so he was clearly way beyond the point of no return.

Luckily, the guy seems to have been lucky after all, making it back home on the very bike, with some elbow and knee bruises, most likely being glad he wore his riding gear. Target fixation is indeed a bitch, and this can happen to most of us, but speeding never helped things…
