The battle for the infotainment system in the car is getting fiercer, and companies like General Motors know this best. It's the reason the carmaker plans to block CarPlay and Android Auto and go all-in on Android Automotive, as the full Google operating system would provide it with more control over the infotainment and also pave the way for a subscription-based model.
However, this battle also takes place at the app level. Companies like Spotify, Google, and Apple battle for the growing audience in the car with new-generation capabilities, but their plans don't often work as expected.

Living proof is a problem plaguing Spotify, making listening to a song on repeat quite a frustrating experience.

The glitch started occurring this week, with users explaining that listening to the same song over and over again is no longer possible due to a bug that prevents playing the tune from the beginning.

The behavior is as unexpected as possible. Users listen to a song, then tap the repeat button, and when Spotify tries to play it one more time, it doesn't start from the beginning but from a random point, sometimes only a few seconds away from the end.

Some users claim they encountered the glitch when switching devices, but others explain that the bug appeared simply when launching Spotify on their phones and tapping the repeat button.

The only workaround is to go back to a previous song and tap the next button to play the desired tune on Spotify. The solution makes the repeat button useless and redundant, but without an official fix, it's the only way to make it work.

The glitch affects Spotify on all platforms, including Android Auto and CarPlay. Users claim they've tried everything, from removing and reinstalling the app to downgrading to a previous version. Nothing worked, but Spotify is already asking for additional information on the bug, so an investigation is underway. It's too early to tell when a fix could ship, but considering it's a widespread behavior, the company is working around the clock on figuring it out using feedback sent by users.

Spotify remains one of the leading choices in music streaming services, particularly thanks to the free tier that allows users to listen to their favorite tunes without paying a single cent. However, the experience is riddled with ads, but compared to other competing products, Spotify allows you to search for songs, skip suggestions (for a limited number of times), and create playlists in the freeware version.

Meanwhile, bugs like this one makes it hard to stick with Spotify, especially considering the improvements that land in competing products, so the parent company should come up with a fix as fast as possible.
