The Boxster is the car that saved Porsche from the brink and allowed it to become what it is today. With the success of the Panamera and Cayenne, these smaller sportscars have been forgotten, so the new was was taken to a completely different level.
No longer just a small hairdresser’s car, the Boxster is now much more hardcore than it’s ever been: lower, stiffer, wider and more powerful. So actually, the Boxster S can serve as an excellent base for an open-top sportscar project.
The tuning Specialists at SpeedART took the 3.4-liter flat-six of the Boxster S and gave it a makeover. The car that came out the other end once they added some awesome body parts and wheels is called the SpeedART SP81-R. It features among other things a big rear wing, 21-inch LSC-FORGED, a front splitter, custom exhasut and a fully refurbished interior.
On the power front, SpeedART offers there options. You can opt for the base power kit which gives you 20 horsepower and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) via a sports exhaust, a stage two kit that plays with the ECU to give you 30 hp and 300 Nm (22 lb-ft) more, or a turbo kit that bolsters the engine’s output to about 400 horsepower.
This video was taken by Toldi at the Essen Motor Show 2012, where the SpeedART SP81-R made its official debut recently. The video shows all the cool little details that you can’t see in official press photos.
