Last week BMW announced that it will be bringing out a new concept at this year Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este for a couple of reasons. One of them was to celebrate the iconic BMW 3.0CSL model that wrote history back in the early 1970s.
Scheduled to make its first full appearance on May 22nd, the Germans were rather coy with the details providing only a teaser image for the press, showing us the left rear side of the car. That was enough though for an enthusiastic renderer to create a full sketch of how he thinks the car will look like eventually.

His creation is a mix of elements from the original car and the more modern alternatives like the i8. For example, he kept the huge air vents on the front fender intact as well as the wide hips but added air scoops on the rear fenders, like on the hybrid sports car.

The roof is also sporting a spoiler for the rear window, similar to those used back in the day in Motorsport and not only, for the mighty 3.0 CSL. The rear bumper is also sporting design cues that remind us of the iconic Batmobile which was the nickname for the original CSL when in full combat mode, particularly when you look at that massive spoiler atop the boot lid.

Inside the cabin, things should be simplistic, in the typical German fashion. Every button, every feature included in the end project will have to have a particular function. That’s why we believe things will be especially Spartan inside on the concept.

Until we get to see it in the metal though, we can only make assumptions. Thankfully, we’ll learn all about it this Friday.
