There are a couple of models made by BMW that marked its trajectory over the years and one of them was definitely the 3.0CSL. Yes, I’m talking about the hardcore CSL version and not the standard 3.0 one. That’s because the differences are quite impressive between the two, especially when it comes to motorsport.
The widebody aerodynamic kit that BMW designed for it back in the 1970s earned the car the ‘Batmobile’ nickname and judging by its performance on the track, Batman would’ve been lucky to have it. For the street legal models though, it didn’t get much better than what you’re seeing in the gallery below.

What we have here is one of only 439 3.0CSL with a the steering wheel on the left side of the car. Originally, only 939 units of this car were built and 500 of them were right-hand drive so it is truly a rare bird.

Under the bonnet lies a modified engine that was overhauled by the guys from Schnitzer Motorsport in Freilassing. It was completely restored and it’s rated at 147 kW (200 HP), plenty for a car that tips the scale at only 1,165 kg (2,568 lbs). Chip in the 3,153 cc inline 6-cylinder engine and you get quite the thrills with it on the road.

Accelerating from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes just 6.9 seconds, a number that isn’t exactly the most impressive by today’s standards but all you need to do to fall in love with this car is look at it... It’s just mesmerizing, leaving us speechless.

The price had that same effect on us, €189,000 ($205,178) definitely not being cheap. On the other hand, just look at those Alpina wheels, look at that roof spoiler and check out those fins on the front fender. There’s also a Bilstein suspension working underneath the sheet metal, a handmade stainless steel exhaust and a flawless 5-speed gearbox. If you don’t like how this car looks like, maybe you’re just not a true gear head....
