Enova Partners with Remy for HVH-Based Drive System

As the electric and hybrid vehicle market is still engulfed in the agitation specific to its young age, all types of partnerships and joint ventures are being set up across the world, aiming at developing new, better technologies for the new segment of the automotive industry.

American supplier Remy International, together with supplier Enova Systems, announced they have entered an agreement for the development of a new electric drive. To be based on the existing Omni controller and Remy HVH motor, the system is hoped to allow the development of integrated and more reliable drivetrains for EVs and hybrids.

“This will allow Enova to apply its state-of-the-art Omni controller technology to Remy’s advanced new HVH permanent magnet motors to deliver a high-performance solution for hybrid and all-electric vehicles,” Enova CEO Mike Staran said in a statement.

The HVH motor is featured of the three-wheeled Aptera 2e in its HVH250 form. The unit provides a high power density and torque, while being compact and light. The HVH250 is an advanced electric motor, which can also serve as a generator for electric and hybrid vehicles, built on Remy’s High Voltage Hairpin (HVH) technology.

The company claims that it has one of the best torque and power density in the world. The unit can be installed in both electric vehicles (increasing their range) and hybrid ones (reducing the necessary power output of the combustion engine).

“The optimized controller-motor solution we are developing demonstrates the strong technology heritage and commitment to customers that Enova continues to bring to the hybrid and all-electric vehicle market,” added.
