Nissan is currently working on an electric version of the Qazana, with first rumors indicating that it could arrive in dealerships sometime around 2013. Additionally, the Japanese manufacturer is also planning a production version of the Nuvu electric supermini but specific details on the plant to build it or a preliminary launch date are yet to be unveiled.
According to autocar.co.uk, the electric Qazana might be manufacturer in the United Kingdom at Nissan's plant in Sunderland alongside the regular model. The production Qazana will be displayed at the next Geneva Motor Show in March 2010.
Nissan has already announced plans to build battery manufacturing facilities around the world, including in the UK, France and Portugal. This way, the Japanese manufacturer would have enough lithium-ion batteries for all its electric models scheduled to be launched in the next years. Each of these facilities will have an estimated output of 50,000 batteries a year.
Nissan Qazana was first revealed this year in March and came in the form of a concept. However, Nissan says the production version will be actually different from the concept, but hasn't exactly mentioned the parts to differ on the two models.
"The Qazana concept is an intelligent, all-wheel drive crossover which is masculine, agile, lean, and designed for the tough city streets. Our team at Nissan Design Europe in London realized this image with the motif of a modern day beach buggy and four-seat motor-bike," Atsushi Maeda, chief designer at Nissan Design Europe said back in March.
Details on both the electric and the regular Qazana are expected to surface in the upcoming months.
