We've heard a lot of riders asking themselves whether the new 636 Ninja is indeed different form the old ZX-6R. Such a question is not only a perfectly legit one, but finding a proper answer for it will also cut it when it comes to hearing people that the 636 move is a purely marketing one and is just aiming for the buyers' wallet.
So that's why we're so happy to be able to show you the result of the tests performed by Cycle World on their brand new Dynojet 250i dynamometer. Thew two dynojet diagrams show a very clear advantage for the new 636cc 2013 Ninja.

The peak power produced by the 2013 Ninja is only under 3 hp bigger that what the ZX-6R can deliver (112.24 versus 109.34), and the torque difference is consistent with that: 46.37 lb-ft for the 636 and 43.94 lb-ft for the ZX-6R.

Nothing spectacular so far, but let's take a look at the second diagram showing the peak power response with the fully-open throttle for both bikes. You can clearly see that the 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 636 beats the older 59cc ZX-6R hands down in both low- and full-power modes.

The difference is huge: somewhere in the 25 hp mark, and that is a lot! One more neat thing the Cycle World test have shown is how much smoother the full-throttle power deployment of the 636cc bike is compared to all the spikes of the 599cc one.

So if open-throttle racing is your game, watch out for the guy riding the new 636 Ninja, because he'll definitely steal your win.
