Diesel engines have a reputation for being slow and undesirable. However, if you’re willing to roll with the punches and keep working on tuning your oil-burner, something like this can come out.
The power to weight ratio of this Duramax sand machine is an a completely different level. What is is designed for? Going up a hill really, really fast and having lots of fun. It also works as a dragster and can deal with snow too.

The sand rail owned and run by MA Racing uses the LBZ Duramax engine that’s been tuned to around 750 horsepower, while torque is just shy of a thousand pound-feet. The frame of the car weighs next to nothing. In fact, we wouldn’t even call it a car as much as a rolling chassis.

The diesel torque cranks up the G-force meter to the maximum, as this vehicle rockets up a sandy hill without any problems. Its drive, however, underestimates her speed, and when the sand rail reaches the apex, it goes flying.

Because of the weight distribution, it lands in such a way that it spins and goes upside down. However, thanks to the cage the driver is unhurt by the incident and even has time for interviews.

After watching this video, we knew we were ready to see more awesome Duramax sand rail action and we got what we wanted. Another video we discovered shows the same vehicle with street tires on ice.
