DUDE Wins VW App My Ride Competition

The winner application for the contest titled App My Ride, launched by German manufacturer Volkswagen back in April, has been found. The app is called DUDE and is, according to Volkswagen, an app which communicates with the driver playfully and supportive (probably a bit like “dude, slow down!” or something).

The goal of the competition launched by Volkswagen was to find ideas which in the future may turn into regular production in infotainment systems of the future. While Volkswagen has apparently made up its mind, it is now up to you to decide if DUDE is what was missing from the infotainment scene. For that, follow this link and you'll know what to do.

The creators of the app describe the DUDE as “an adorable, little helper.” It is used to inform the driver “about all the important information needed to improve your driving-skills and to take care of you, your car and the environment.

"He won't bombard you with menus or statistics and he won't distract you from driving. It's simply his look, his mood and the color of the background that will give you all the information you need and it's all about the way you drive to keep him satisfied,” VW says.

The DUDE relays information by changing its mood. There are five types of symbols and five ways to make the DUDE feel better: patch means you need to take the car the repair shop or reset the repair-timer, dirt means you should activate the Automatic Wipers, zzz means you should take a nap or driving break, sweat/facial expression means you should drive slower than 130km/h while emission clouds advises you to keep fuel consumption under a certain level.
