If you’re following the news, Ducati is working on a very special and limited bike behind curtains, which is expected to be unveiled at EICMA this week. The bike, also known as Project 1408, has a special website for VIP customers only and it looks like they snapped a few screenshots from there and released them on social media.
Despite the message that warns any user that lands on the site about the fact that the information there is secret and any sharing is considered a criminal and civil offense, at least someone with access to the webpage managed to spill the beans over the Internet regarding the new bike. And it's the second time this has happened.
So here it is - Ducati’s very rare, limited edition, 1299 Superleggera. As you can guess, detailed specifications aren’t available, and you’ll have to do with only some photos for the moment.
Now, the pictures have been shared so many times on social media websites that the image compression tools have taken away most of the details offered by the originals. Look closely, though, and you might find some interesting features.
For example, the whole frame is made out of carbon fiber along with many other parts, so the bike stands up to its ’Superleggera’ name. The airbox, different shields and panels, and even the rims fall into this category.
Next, you can see the awesome and short dual Akrapovic exhausts that are mounted under the seat instead of being placed under the engine, like on a standard 1299. The adjustable Ohlins front and rear suspension is a must and can be observed here in detail along with the steering damper.
Speaking of the steering damper, the same picture tells a story about how rare the 1299 Superleggera will be, as a triple clamp stamping reads 001/500, meaning this is the first unit out of the total five hundred that will be produced.
A couple more pictures show the engine’s internals, which look to be racing-grade lightweight parts, meaning that this two-wheeled monster could generate around 220 hp. Combine that with an expected dry weight of under 155 kg (347.7 lb), and you can imagine what this thing can do.
