Ducati is preparing a very special bike behind the curtains, a bike we expect to be the 1299 Superleggera and hopefully get unveiled at this year’s EICMA show in Milan next month.
Although kept in secrecy, the bike is believed to be hiding under the ‘Project 1408’. Some VIP Ducati customers actually have access to the project’s official website, and it looks like one of them took a few print-screens off from there.

As the Superleggera name hints, the new bike will have to be lighter, and it will do so by using a carbon frame and airbox. But that doesn’t stop here, as the swingarm and BST wheels will be made out of the same material.

Just shedding off some weight won’t cut it for the model, so the bike is said to be powered by heavily tuned engine supposed to deliver somewhere around the 220 hp mark. This means it will be the most powerful engine Ducati made so far.

Apart from the new cylinder heads, tougher internals, and better ECU, the new engine will also be fitted with a new exhaust that will be similar to the World Superbike Panigale R. This translates into two Akrapovic mufflers mounted under the seat, instead of the traditional 1299 under-engine ones.

As expected, no one knows how many units will be built and what price range will the Superleggera reach. Anyway, expect something over $70,000.

For comparison, the last Ducati 1199 Superleggera weighs only 155 kg (347.7 lb) dry. The race-bred machine also comes with Öhlins FL916 front suspension with fully-machined fork bottoms, an Öhlins TTX36 rear suspension with a titanium spring, and Brembo M50 Monobloc brakes.

A racing kit added a titanium Akrapovic exhaust, 5 extra HP, racing windscreen, dedicated dust cover, front and rear paddock stands, machined mirror fill-caps and removal kits for the number plate and side stand.
