Ducati 1198 Signed and Ridden by Valentino Rossi Up for Auction

Remember the Ducati 1198 streetbike The Doctor rode at the launch of the new £25 million Silverstone Wing pit and paddock complex, when his racebike broke down? Well, that particular machine is to go under the hammer at the same venue, with the proceeds going to the Riders for Health charity.

“This is a unique chance to own a piece of Ducati history and Rossi memorabilia.  It will attract collectors, bike and race enthusiasts alike and in turn will raise money for a worthwhile cause. The money donated by Ducati UK will help Riders for Health to mobilize health workers with reliable motorcycles and train them in basic maintenance so that they are able to provide a regular health care to even very remote villages,”
Ducati explained.

The bike (still with its license plate, indicators and mirrors attached) is normally used for customer demonstration rides but Rossi was able to complete 30 laps on the 1198 to familiarize himself with the Silverstone circuit ahead of the AirAsia British MotoGP.

Rossi signed the 1198 and now the bike will be displayed at the Riders for Health Day of Champions on June 9 before getting moved to the auction on June 11.

“I really had fun,”
said Valentino Rossi after riding the streetbike. “After a few laps with the 1198 Superbike, we had a problem with the electronics and decided to use the 1198 street bike that Ducati’s UK affiliate rushed to us.”

“I really liked riding that bike here,”
The Doctor said, after which he described his impression of the track. “The track is nice—difficult and very technical.."
