Professional boxer Marcos Forestal, the World Boxing Federation International Super Bantamweight champion, has been arrested after a crash over the weekend in California, which he caused by drunk-driving.
The 28-year-old athlete crashed his BMW head-on into a Chrysler minivan in Helmet, California. The woman in the Chrysler was a mother of 3 who was also pregnant in 8 months, Krystil Kincaid, and she died later at the hospital from the injuries she sustained.
According to a statement from the Helmet Police, when first responders arrived on the scene, Forestal displayed symptoms of intoxication. He was pacing outside his vehicle, while the Chrysler was in flames and the woman, still alive but unconscious, was trapped inside.
Forestal was also livestreaming the whole thing, complaining to his followers of what had happened to him and asking for sympathy because his car had been wrecked. The video has since been taken down from his social media accounts, but you can still see it here, on Instagram.
The Cuban boxer, who currently resides in Los Angeles, is heard saying in Spanish: “Look what happened to me, guys. A car crossed in front of me and look what happened to my car.”
He was still livestreaming when cops arrived and asked him if he was ok.
Meanwhile, Krystil Kincaid was airlifted to a nearby hospital after the crash. Her baby died right away and she was put on life support. She too passed the next day.
Her husband Zach tells The Press-Enterprise that Krystil was on the phone with him when the BMW crashed into her car. He heard her screaming right before impact and was still on the line when responders were trying to free her from the wreck.
He says he could have forgiven Forestal for drunk-driving and killing his wife, but not after he saw the video in which he has the audacity to complain of the misfortune that had befallen him.
“It wasn’t until I saw that, that I was upset with his lack of humanity and compassion,” Zach says. “It seems to be the kind of person he was. At that moment, I came to the realization that he just killed my wife and my child, and that he only cares for himself. Hopefully, some prison time will allow him to reflect and be a better person when he comes out.”
Forestal was arrested for DUI and causing a collision resulting in major injuries. The charge has since been upgraded to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, following Kincaid’s death.
