Drag racing is one the most dangerous sports on four wheels... and that’s a fact. And while new safety regulations and advanced technologies have reduced the number of injuries among drivers and fans, such unfortunate accidents keep occurring now and then.
The most recent one happened during last weekend’s NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, when Robert Hight’s Ford Mustang funny car blew its engine. The explosion was so powerful that the carbon-fiber body was thrown into the crowd, landing on a few drag racing enthusiasts that didn’t have enough time to get out of the way.
Fortunately, no one was seriously injured, and the only two fans that needed medical assistance were later released. Considering what happened at Daytona just two months ago, we were happy to find out that this didn’t get any worse.
