We still have no idea what BMW built the X5 M for. They must have had a desirable new engine and a best selling soft-roading vehicle and decided to put them together. Unlike a Range Rover SC, it’s pretty much useless off-road. But thanks to its AWD system, it can pretty much blitz all other cars off the line.
Want proof? Here you go - a video of a RENNtech tuned 2011 BMW X5 M racing against a true champion of the quarter mile, a LS3 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport in stock form. This was shot at a recent Street Car Drags event in Palm Beach.
The BMW X5 M is much quicker off the line and actually wins the heat with a time of 12.324 seconds. The Corvette posts a better top speed but can’t make up for the gap this Bavarian brute has put between them.
