Contemporary London is a city that’s involved in an extreme fight against congestion and traffic polution, with authorities constantly trying to make traffic greener and lighter. However, it hasn’t always been this way and we’re here to talk about a public transport vehicle from an era when carbon footprint was referring to stepping on a pencil.
We are talkign about a 1966 RML Leyland Routemaster bus, which fetched $106,000 (EUR84,320) at an acution that was held by Christie’s yesterday, managing to brings funds that are more than double of what it was estimated.
The bus used to serve Route 73 on Oxford Street, going past past Marble Arch, to Kensington High Street and the Park Lane Hilton. Since only a few of the original Routemasters are still in use in London (newer, more efficient bussed replaced them in February this year) this bus can be called a piece of history.
