A new ad from Subaru Russia plays on people's obsessions with dashcams and dashcam videos. It's shot to look like an average driving experience gone strange and has that "oh my God, what did I just watch" feel to it.
A little dog plays off the emotions of a dog-loving Subaru XV female driver. He plays dead in the middle of the road, but when the driver gets out to check on him, the dog makes a run for it, gets behind the wheel of the Subaru and steals it. Everything is, of course, captured by the dashcam and posted on Youtube by a random user.
Dashcams are very popular in Russia due to the high rate of insurance scams, drunk people on the road and unpredictable hazards. Thanks to them, the world was able to see what a meteor strike looks like and know it's best to avoid driving in Russia if possible. Guess we now know never to stop for a dog in the middle of the road as well!
With over 9 million views on Youtube already, this next Subaru ad has proven its viral media worth in just a few days.
When we think of Subarus and Russia, people hooning an STI through Moscow's roundabouts pop up. But most buyers go for the more reasonable Impreza or the XV crossover they based off it. God to see the marketing people have their head on straight.
