With every technological upgrade the cars received, everybody got frightened that they won’t be able to mend their vehicles at home with basic stuff and they will get ripped-off by dealerships.
A special case was represented by the hybrids, on which people feared to fiddle with their intricate mechanical parts not to upset something, just because gasoline and electricity sounds pretty dangerous.

The fact is that everyone can repair their vehicle in their own garage comfort even today. It’s not like there are alien spaceship components under the hood. There are still mechanical and electrical parts that you can change or repair if you have the right documentation and a good set of tools.

Like this man from Lexington, Kentucky, did with his 2000 Toyota Prius. He serviced the car every time it needed and even changed its battery, managing to clock over 170,000 km and counting. Visit Boston Overdrive to read the full story.
