The Audi R8 era ended last month when the final copy rolled off the assembly line. One might assume that it was a special commission boasting several exclusive touches, but it wasn't. On top of that, the four-ring brand didn't sell it, as it now reportedly sits in a museum.
Rather strangely, the German automaker, which is part of the Volkswagen Group, was tight-lipped about the final R8 copy. Nevertheless, it appears that it was a V10 Performance Quattro Edition, boasting a Vegas Yellow paint finish, riding on bronze alloys, and featuring a carbon fiber package.
Production of the R8 should've ended a few months ago, yet just when Audi made the announcement, multiple enthusiasts placed an order for one. As a result, the company was forced to extend the assembly to meet the demand until they stopped taking orders for it altogether.
There seem to be around 100 copies left in dealer lots nationwide, so you know what to do if you're interested in getting into R8 ownership. Mind you, they are not overpriced either, as many carry MSRP or slightly lower price tags, and that's not bad at all, considering that this model shares many components with its more exotic cousin, the Lamborghini Huracan.
However, while the Huracan is getting a successor later this year, one with an electrified V8 featuring twin turbos, Audi doesn't have a replacement in the making for the R8. Not officially, anyway, as unofficially, it should be a battery-electric proposal, which would be a safe bet, as it wouldn't step on the toes of the Lamborghini Temerario (name unconfirmed). Moreover, the R8 had an e-tron variant last decade, although it was short-lived, so it would have a solid foundation.
In our opinion, Audi will eventually launch a brand-new R8, likely with all-quiet firepower, and it will likely look like a futuristic evolution of its predecessors. The design does not appear to have been finalized, but we could be wrong, as there might just be a full-sized clay model in one of the brand's facilities out there, not to mention numerous sketches. Still, we haven't seen them, and neither have the rendering artists who keep imagining the successor to the R8 every now and then.
A fresh 'trust me, bro' approach came from aimotoz on Instagram. The pixel manipulator came up with a few digital ideas, looking very aggressive and somewhat worthy of the R8 moniker. The imagined supercar looks fast, standing still in all configurations and sporting very muscular styling ideas that might inspire Audi's design team if it stumbles upon these CGIs. So, which of the rendered 2025 Audi R8s do you think looks best? For me, it would be the one in the opening pic.
