Di Resta Aims for Reserve Driver Role with Force India

British driver Paul di Resta admitted that he's looking at the opportunity to test for Force India at Jerez this week as the perfect way to make some sort of a connection with the world of the Great Circle for his future. The Mercedes driver is currently competing in the German DTM series, but made no secret from his desire to debut in Formula One some day.

The Brit showed consistent speed throughout the first 2 days of testing on the Jerez circuit, having last driven an F1 car last year, for a single day (with McLaren Mercedes). He completed Day 1 of the rookie test in the runner-up spot, behind Williams' Andy Soucek, and scored a decent 4th place on Wednesday.

“The goal was to get this (Force India) test done and then see. I don't have any concrete plans for next year but I hope that I can build a solid relationship with Force India for the future off the back of this test,” said Di Resta, according to Autosport.

As compared to his performances in the VJM02 this week, fellow Force India tester JR Hildebrand scored considerable poorer lap times, finishing the two testing days in 10th and 8th respectively. As argued by Force India's co-owner Vijay Mallya when announcing the lineup for the Jerez test last month, there's a high probability that whoever impresses the most after this week will get the testing/reserve driver role for the team next season.

The other names still in play for the reserve driver role with Force India are GP2 racer Karun Chandhok and Swiss driver Neel Jani. All racing spots are already taken for the 2010 season, as Force India recently confirmed Adrian Sutil and Vitantonio Liuzzi for the 2010 campaign.
