Earlier this week, the Indian outfit announced that they will test DTM driver Paul di Resta and Indy Lights champion JR Hildebrand next week, therefore dismissing rumors that Swiss driver Neel Jani and Chandhok were scheduled to make the VJM 02 cockpit next month. Nevertheless, the GP2 driver said he is not disappointed with the news, despite missing out for the second year in a row on the chance to make the Force India lineup.
“We talked about it and I expressed my ambitions to do something with Force India. But they opted to go with other drivers. That's their decision but I'm not disappointed,” Chandhok was quoted as saying to DNA India on Tuesday.
However, this may not turn out to be such a bad news for the Indian driver after all, as the team actually announced one other thing besides the names of the two testing drivers. Team's co-owner Vijay Mallya told the media, via a press release, that Di Resta and Hildebrand will indeed drive for a place in the 2010 lineup, but only as a test/reserve driver.
Therefore, Force India's spare spot in their 2010 racing lineup is still up for grabs and, who knows, maybe Mallya has other plans for Chandhok. The Indian driver was scheduled to do a simulation in the team's Silverstone headquarters and, if he can impress Mallya enough, he might get to do a proper test with Force India in January.
