Davidson Will Not Replace Kubica at Renault

There are certain drivers who, while sympathetic with Robert Kubica's condition these days and despite wishing the Pole could make a quick recovery back into F1, can't stop from glancing at that open racing spot in the Lotus Renault lineup.

Since team principal Eric Boullier hinted earlier this week that his team might be forced to go on a lookout for an experienced driver in 2011, a bunch of drivers have reopened their ears. Anthony Davidson, however, is not one of them.

The much respected British driver who used to be a Honda tester until a while back, following his driving years with the struggling Super Aguri outfit, has reportedly ruled himself out of contention for Renault's vacancy in 2011. Despite his recent links with Formula 1 action – he helped Mercedes GP with their F1 simulator work lately – Davidson is not thinking of an F1 redo this season, but is totally committed to sports car racing.

Having reconfirmed his commitment to Peugeot's Le Mans programme this year, Davidson reckoned that the man replacing Kubica at Renault would have some “big shoes to fill and must be a title contender,” according to Mirror correspondent Byron Young, with whom Davidson had a recent talk on Twitter.

And just to be certain, Young confirmed Davidson ruled “himself out of (contention for the) Renault Lotus drive having signed Peugeot Le Mans deal.”

Recently, Nico Hulkenberg and Vitantonio Liuzzi have both expressed willingness to consider a potential offer from Renault, a team that has reportedly contacted Kimi Raikkonen's management for the job. However, with his rallying campaign in the WRC due to start this very weekend, it's hard to believe the Finn will give up a second consecutive experience in rallying – not to mention that he's not prepared at all for a whole F1 season – for a shot back into the Great Circus.
