David Coulthard: "Piquet Deserved Ban!"

David Coulthard joined the group of drivers who believe Nelson Piquet should have received the same punishment as all the others involved in the crash gate. The former Red Bull driver – known to be one of the most straightforward guys in Formula One – believes Piquet is just as guilty for what happened during the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix as the ones who set up the entire plan.

I think FIA should have punished Piquet too. He was equally guilty as any other. It was really bad. Bad for F1, bad for the fans. The revelations have shaken many, including me. I don't know how anyone can crash an F1 car. All through my career I was trying to avoid a crash!” said Coulthard in an interview with The Times of India.

In addition, DC argued that Piquet Jr.'s bad fame would make it close to impossible to secure him a drive in the series in the near future.

I will be surprised if he gets an F1 drive again,” added the Scottish driver.

Nico Rosberg – the man who could have won the Singapore GP last year hadn't it been for that strategy of Renault's – Robert Kubica and Felipe Massa (who can argue he lost a world title because of the crash gate) were only a few voices demanding at least some sort of a ban for the 24-year old Brazilian.

Despite the criticism, Piquet Jr. will likely return to the series as early as next season. According to recent reports, it seems his father – 3-time world champion Nelson Piquet Snr. – will become an important investor in the newly based Campos Grand Prix, a position that he'll use to secure his son a 2010 drive. However, neither of the two parties have confirmed anything regarding the matter.
