Kubica Slams Piquet's Immunity as Unfair

After Nico Rosberg, another driver admitted his astonishment over the immunity handed by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) to Nelson Piquet Jr. in a scandal where Flavio Briatore received a lifetime ban from the sport and Pat Symonds was suspended 5 years from all FIA sanctioned competitions, the very man who triggered the scandal walked out penalty-less.

Referring to the crash-gate verdict this week, BMW's driver Robert Kubica said that he would have expected Piquet to receive some kind of penalty, despite being granted immunity by the FIA.

Yeah, normally if you go the police and you say you killed someone but you know someone else who killed three people, you will still go to jail. Maybe you will not have 100 per cent penalty, but you will still have problems. As I said, it's complex,” said the Polish driver.

Earlier this week, Nico Rosberg also insisted that Piquet's escaping the crash gate with no penalty whatsoever is totally unfair from the FIA.

The only thing I don't quite understand is (why) Nelson Piquet didn't get anything. For me, he's just as involved as the others because he is the one who actually did it and agreed to it,” declared Rosberg in an interview with Singapore daily Today.

Although admitting that Piquet must have been really desperate to agree to such a scheme only to secure another year of contract with Renault, Kubica added that it's not up to him to judge the Brazilian driver for his wrongdoings. Consequently, he'd have no problem racing against Piquet in the series in the future, as long as things are kept clean and in plain sight.

Whatever, I'm not his boss or his father, so he can come in, no problem as a driver. But you have to be really desperate to do something like this. If everything was done on purpose I would jump out of the car on the starting grid. I'd say I'm not racing or I feel bad instead of doing it. I'm surprised. He's an experienced driver, he's done a lot of races and I'm very surprised he made that deal,” added the Polish driver.
