Dallara Set 2010 Deadline for F1 Car

While most newly Formula One entrants are spending their time looking to secure the necessary budget for the 2010 season, some of them are focusing 100 percent on developing a decent car for next year. Returnees Dallara have no less than 40 people working on a 2010 challenger for Campos Grand Prix, with the prospect of doubling its workforce on the F1 project in the months to come.

Gian Paolo Dallara, president of the Parma-based company, revealed that his team is putting extra hours to get the new car ready by January 2010, as the plan is to have the Dallara-designed car on track by the first off-season test next year.

Campos' car will be powered by a Cosworth unit, which is expected to have more downturns on the car's performances than the existing F1 engines. Although it will likely be allowed to run at unlimited revs, the engine – based on the 3-year old power plant used by Williams F1 Team – is likely to eat up more fuel and influence rear tire wear.

Under the circumstances, designing a competitive car is no easy job for Dallara, despite the company's extensive experience in setting up Formula One chassis. The Italian company used to design F1 cars for Scuderia Italia, Honda and Midland.

I've accepted this opportunity with enthusiasm. It's scary, but it's exciting for me and for my entire company, because this is a fascinating challenge that tests energy and creativity. We've been working for three months already,” said Dallara in an interview with Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by Autosport site.

As confirmed by Dallara, there are several F1 figures that are currently helping with the design of the new car, including ex-Minardi's Gabriele Tredozi and ex-Red Bull's Ben Agathangelou.
