Dacia To Invest EUR13.3 Million in New Engine Family

Romanian carmaker Dacia will invest over RON57 Million (EUR13.3 million) in order to develop a new block for a new family of engines. Of the total sum, RON20 million (EUR4.66 million) will consist of non-reimbursable funds provided by the European Regional Development Fund. The development plan, which will span over a three year period, will take place at Dacia’s factory in Mioveni.

“The RON20 million is the maximum amount that can be obtained through the large enterprise productive investment operation, part of the sector operations program "Increasing Economic Competitiveness," co-financed form the European Regional Development Fund,” according to a press release by the Ministry of Economy.

Earlier this tear, Dacia officials stated that the Mioveni factory will produce engines that meet Euro 5 emissions standards for Dacia, Renault, Nissan and Renault Samsung models. The manufacturing process was to be based on a new engine family, but also adapting Euro 4 platforms to meet new regulations. The company is currently producing three engines that comply with Euro 4 standards, the K7J, K7M petrol engines and the F8Q diesel unit.

The factory will open a new production line for the new family of Euro 5 engines, including H4 and H5. It will also adapt the K7 engine to conform to the Euro 5 standard, officials said. Last year, the Dacia factory managed to produce a total of 273,559 engines of three types: 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter gasoline mill and the 1.9-liter diesel. Automobile Dacia sold 311,282 vehicles last year, 20% more than in 2008.

This year, Dacia will manufacture more than 330,000 units, according to Constantin Stroe, the company's vice-president, topping initial estimates thanks to Western European market demand, particularly for the Duster.
