Dacia Duster Will Not Be Sold in the US

Despite the success it registers in markets across the world and especially in Europe, the Romanian SUV Duster has little to zero chances of making it into the US in a foreseeable future. At least this is what Patrick Pelata, the production manager of the Renault Group, which owns Dacia, says.

During the opening of the Titu Technical Center in Romania, Pelata said the company is looking to expand into markets other than the ones currently at the top of the automotive industry. Dacia plans to sell its products in Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Russia, Iran, Iraq, Turkey and South Africa, but not in the US and China. The main obstacle for entering these markets is, if we understand correctly what the executive is saying, quality.

“We are not planning to launch the Duster in the US,” Pelata said. “Before talking about expanding into the US and China, let's not forget we are currently in the process of expanding in other markets. We cannot force our way into other markets at this time because the number of Romanian, French and Korean engineers isn't enough to allow us to make it all good enough.”

The main focus for the Dacia brand and the group which owns it is now to figure out a way to meet the strong demand for the Duster. Dacia customers are now facing waiting lists of up to seven months in countries like France, where the price for a used Duster has managed to reach higher levels than the ones asked for a brand new vehicle.
