Drift fans who don’t have the possibility to travel to the race track will be bought closer to their favorite competitions as the Japanese and US D1 Grand Prix will be broadcasted on Speed TV. ad}“The Japanese and US D1 Grand Prix are both coming to SpeedTV, giving us yet another new racing series to help in satiating our automotive fixes,” stated the press release.
The D1 GP will be featured on Speed TV from September to November. The series will include 15 sixty minutes programs and cover nine races taking place in Japan, three events in the U.S., a display show and a season finale show.
The racing series, which is similar to Formula Drift, offers head-to-head challenges between drifters, with the sideways action taking place at over 120 mph. The championship includes single elimination heats that lead up to a final competition that determines each event’s winner. The top ranked drivers receive points based on their final event standing, with the overall season score being used to determine the champion.
"Bringing USA D1 Grand Prix drifting events to SPEED is a cool new addition to the network," said SPEED President Hunter Nickell. "Combining the young, cutting-edge atmosphere of drifting with the history and familiarity of host venues like Atlanta, Texas, Homestead-Miami, and Irwindale will be a unique experience for our viewers."
The SPEED broadcast of the D1 GP is scheduled to debut on September 4 at 6 p.m. ET from Tokyo, while the second event will take place eight days after that on September 12 at 6 p.m. ET from Oita, Japan.
