Cyclone Engine Gets New Patent

The engine which is likely to leave its mark on more than one industry in the not so distant future received another patent from the US Patent and Trademark Office. It is the seventh such protection given for the technologies employed in the heat regenerative, external combustion engine.

This new patent concerns the fact that the engine uses no oil to lubricate itself. It does so by using only water.

"The elimination of motor oil as a lubricating agent is simply the most dramatic and major improvement in the Rankine cycle engine seen in the past sixty years," said steam car expert James D. Crank.

"Without this innovation, the Cyclone engine would not have surpassed with such dramatic force the efficiencies of previous steam car power systems."

The Cyclone is a Rankine Cycle heat regenerative external combustion engine capable of turning heat into work. Unlike a traditional internal combustion engine, which ignites fuel under high pressure inside the cylinders, the Cyclone burns it in an external chamber, under atmospheric pressure, outside the cylinders.

The heat resulted from the burning of the fuel is used to turn water into steam, meaning that it's not the fuel that powers the engine, but the steam. According to Cyclone Power, the fuel required to generate steam does not even need to be fueled in the traditional sense.

"We are pleased to receive this new patent," added Cyclone's CEO, Harry Schoell. "Our team is working hard to complete our engine prototypes to demonstrate that what we have is a truly revolutionary way to produce power - for cars, trucks, busses, power generators and more -- in an environmentally-sustainable manner."
