Ford has never had the intention to design its Focus with the ability to fly but it seems that a British driver in his sixties wanted to change this.
According to the Daily Mail, the motorist and his wife had been driving a rented Ford Focus in the hills near Marbella, in Spain, enjoying their holiday. Nothing out of the ordinary so far. But wait, you haven't heard it all. As he drove round a bend, the motorist is believed to have mistaken the accelerator for the brake.
Thus, he accelerated although he wanted to brake instead. Consequently, his car sped through a wall, left the road and took off. After the unexpected flight, the vehicle landed safely about 30 ft down the hill in the outside stairwell of an apartment block.
As surprising as it may seem, no one got hurt following the flying adventure as the couple emerged uninjured out of the car.
"It's certainly not the standard type of road traffic accident we get called to," said a spokesman.
Witnesses to the scene were surprised to find out that it was car that landed on the stairwell and not a plane that was thought to have crashed judging by the height it fell from.
"They fell from such a height I thought at first part of a plane had fallen out of the sky," said a witness. "The fact the couple inside walked away without serious injury defies logical explanation."
Quite obviously, the crash caused some damage in the area. The front porch of a German couple was destroyed and the rented car was also damaged.
