The “City Car” is a notion that has become an obsession in the contemporary automotive landscape. This is because the world needs cars that are built specifically to cater for urban transportation needs. In other words, automotive producers are forced to develop vehicles that are compact, in order to tackle the congestion issue that threatens to paralyze traffic.

In addition to that, these cars also have to be extremely economic, as energy efficiency has become one of the most important assets of a new automotive product.

However, this brings multiple design limitations. Let us explain, Customers want a vehicle that is small, but also need a generous interior space. This forces designers to come up with rather dull styling cues and this is how we end up with four-wheeled boxes that use added eye-candy elements in their struggle to become attractive.

But what if could throw away some of the rules and design a city vehicle that can really create pure emotion? This is exactly what Martin Tyminski has done, creating the Concept R.

The British artist is offering us a vehicle that seems to ask to be driven. With its sporty stance and low ground clearance the vehicle seems to be a call for passionate transportation.

However, the study manages to create this image without using exaggerated details. Actually, the car comes with a rather minimalist design, using well-studies shapes and offering interesting proposals for the design of the doors and wheels.

We’d like to tell you that Martin is qualified a car designer, as he has graduated from Huddersfield University with a BA (Hons) in Transport Design, Kingston University with an MSc in Information Technology and Coventry University with a MA in Automotive Design.
