The third coachbuilt Bentley of the modern era, expertly crafted by Mulliner, is the fresh Batur Convertible featuring the delightful W12 at full song with an armada of 740 ponies (750 ps).
Not long ago, if you wanted the most exclusive fast Bentley, it wasn't a Speed model – it was the Bentley Bacalar by Mulliner. Now, though, it's the Bacalar heir that takes center stage. No, we are not talking about the 18 examples that were reserved by connoisseurs – those had their primetime when Bentley presented the exclusive projection of an animation on the ground when the doors open or talked about the sound system that alone is worth the MSRP of a modern muscle car.
Instead, Bentley teased a new coachbuilt by Mulliner model late last month that sure looked like an open-top Batur to us. Well, we are happy to report that our hunch was correct, and the orange splendor we now see in the first official photos is indeed the Batur Convertible. Mulliner will expertly craft no more than 16 units as an evolution of Bentley's DNA and "capturing the essence of open-air Grand Touring in a progressive design."
The two-door, two-seat model with a retractable roof configuration will be co-created by selected customers to showcase the latest examples of additional personalization options such as the 'airbridge' and Rose Gold interior detailing. As promised, this Bentley will be another way for the automaker to wave goodbye to its W12 engine – and the Batur Convertible will take advantage of the entire camp of 740 horsepower, just like the 'regular' Batur.
Following in the footsteps of the Bacalar barchetta and Batur coupe, this Batur Convertible will feature the hand-assembled 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine that has been a faithful companion of Bentley for the past two decades, and the traditional aesthetics of a true cabriolet will be respected through the use of a retractable soft-top. The system allows its stowing in just 19 seconds at up to 30 mph (48 kph), and while the company says the paint choices are infinite, this official presentation features a bright orange example as a potential way of welcoming the upcoming summer season.
Inside, there's a "highly exclusive option of 3D printed rose gold" on the Bentley Drive Mode Selector, start/stop circle, or the chassis modes. Optional applications include the "Organ Stop vent controls in the dashboard, as well as a rose gold insert marker on the steering wheel itself." By the way, it's possible that Bentley will make an additional unit because what we see before our eyes is the engineering development car – Batur Convertible Car #0 – which has the W12 paired with the eight-speed double-clutch transmission, a titanium sports exhaust, 3D-printed exhaust tips, plus a Vermillion Gloss over Vermillion Satin paintwork with front splitters, side skirts, and the rear diffuser dressed in high gloss carbon fiber.
